Two moves, then stay on the list.

File the property. Write your council member. The buttons under the site title on every page land here, on the report and council sections, or on the list signup.

Report a property

Metro’s complaint page says every short-term rental violation, including noise, parking, and trash at a specific rental, goes through hubNashville. You can also call 311 or 615-862-5000. If someone is trying to enter a home right now, call Metro police non-emergency, 615-862-8600. Questions about whether a permit exists go to [email protected], not into the complaint form.

What to document

  • Date and time of each incident. File a new complaint for each one.
  • The address you are reporting, the listing URL, and screenshots of the ad, including whether a permit number is visible.
  • Photos or video of the condition you are reporting.
  • Police report numbers, if officers were called.
  • Safety impacts: guests at the wrong door, an entry attempt, blocked parking, trash, noise. State what you saw. Do not guess at a host’s identity.

Check the address in the eligibility viewer (opens in a new tab) and the Parcel Viewer (opens in a new tab) before you describe the zone. A complaint that says “no permit number on the listing, residential zone, guests on these dates” is usable. A complaint about something that did not happen is perjury under Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-16-702. Metro is required to tell you that. Keep the hubNashville case number. An account on this site stores that log for you. If you add the address where you live, the next report and a council email both start from that block. The account does not file the complaint, and it does not publish what you write.

Draft the complaint from a listing

Paste a listing if you have one. You still file it yourself on hubNashville. The draft is a starting point, not a finding that a violation occurred.

Contact your council member

Find your council member (opens in a new tab)

  1. Search your address in the Parcel Viewer (opens in a new tab) and confirm the zoning.
  2. Open Metro Council’s district list (opens in a new tab) . If you do not know the district number, use the council district maps (opens in a new tab) .
  3. Send the message below to that member. Put your own name on it. Do not add a neighbor’s name or address.
Dear Council Member,

I live in Metro Council District [number], in [neighborhood].

I am asking you to ban all short-term rental permits, owner-occupied and not owner-occupied, in non-commercially zoned residential areas. Start with neighborhood conservation overlays.

Metro already refuses new not-owner-occupied permits in AR2A, R, RS, and RM. That has not cleared residential streets. Existing permits in those zones can still be renewed. Owner-occupied permits are still issued. Guests are still sent to private homes. We need a use restriction, and we need Codes to use the enforcement tools already in §6.28.030, including unpermitted operation and the three-violation revocation path.

Tell me where you stand, and when this will be on an agenda.

Document and share an example

Send a local example to your council member or neighborhood association. Do not put a neighbor’s name, phone number, or home address in this note. This page does not store what you type. It opens your email app, or copies the note so you can paste it.

Match notices to a district

Optional. Citywide notices still go to everyone. A district notice also goes to people who leave this blank. This stores the email, not a street address, and it is not published.

Bills, hearings, and coordinated actions only, from [email protected]. No other mail. Posted events stay on Hearings.
